Emergence of metallo-beta-lactamases in Acinetobacter spp clinical isolates from Argentina.

چکیده
64 Rev Esp Quimioter 2010;23(2):100-102 The class B metallo carbapenem-hydrolyzing ß lactamases (MBLs) are enzymes of great concern because they possess activity against all ß -lactams, except monobactams. Up to now, several members of this family of enzymes have been described (IMP, VIM, SPM-1, GIM-1, SIM-1). Most of VIM and IMP genes usually reside within class 1 integrons as gene cassettes. Due to the ability to confer broad-spectrum ß lactam resistance, the unavailability of clinically useful inhibitors, and their potential for rapid and generalized dissemination, infections produced by MBL-possessing bacteria are a matter of great concern worldwide. In Argentina, the undesirable emergence of MBLs was previously documented among Pseudomonas aeruginosa .

Background and Objective: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen. Evidence suggests that the incidence of enzyme-producing strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Metalo Beta Lactamases (MBL) is a major problem in the treatment of infections caused by this organism. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of class I and II integrons among metalobetalactamase pro...
متن کاملImipenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains carry vim-type metallo-beta-lactamases isolated from intensive care unit, Shahid Beheshti Hospital, North of Iran
Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the causing agent of many hospital infections and metallo-beta-lactamases (MBL) are being reported with increasing frequency. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of metallo-&beta-lactamases (MBL) and VIM-1 gene in multidrug-resistant strains of P. aeruginosa isolates and to compare the methods of phenotypic and molecular detection. Materia...
متن کاملDetection of VIM- and IMP-type Metallo-Beta-Lactamase Genes in Acinetobacter baumannii Isolates from Patients in Two Hospitals in Tehran
Background: Acinetobacter baumannii, is an opportunistic pathogen and is responsible for numerous nosocomial infections. In recent years, this microorganism has been resistant to a wide range of antibiotics. One of the most important mechanisms of resistance in this microorganism is production of metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs). Objectives: The aim of this study was to detect VIM- and IMP-type ...
متن کاملEmergence of Imipenem Resistance and Presence of Metallo--Lactamases Enzymes in Multi Drug Resistant Gram Negative Bacilli Isolated from Clinical Samples in Kerman, 2007-2008
Background & Aims: Imipenem is a member of Carbapenem with stability against most -lactamases .It is of particular use in the treatment of infections associated with drug resistant gram negative bacteria harboring ESBL and AmpC genes. The aim of this study was to determine the imipenem resistance in gram negative bacteria causing nosocomial infections and the presence of metallo--lactamases (MB...

Background and Objective: Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most important causative agents both in form of hospital acquired and community-acquired infections. This bacterium is one of the most prevalent pathogens that is isolated from hospitals and is associated with high mortality rates. The uprising trend of multi drug resistance among Klebsiella pneumoniae has limited the treatment optio...
